– Nigeria’s federal government has banned the importation of vehicles through the nation’s land borders.The prohibition that was announced in early December to come into effect on January 1st is an attempt by the authorities to curb large-scale smuggling of cars into Africa’s largest economy to encourage local automobile assembling companies as well as protect government customs revenue.However, it comes with a number of downsides, not least having the opposite effect on smuggling than intended.
