Ford Foundation to give $10 million to support Fair Lane mansion restoration The New York-based Ford Foundation has committed a $10 million grant to support the restoration and reinterpretation of Henry Ford Estate-Fair Lane, the historic Dearborn home of Henry and Clara Ford.
Ford Foundation President Darren Walker was set to announce the grant during the 29th Henry Ford Estate Dinner Dance at the Dearborn Inn on Friday night.
The Ford Foundation’s grant reinforces its “exceptional commitment to Detroit and the surrounding region,” Edsel B. Ford II, chairman of Henry Ford Estate, said in a statement.
We look forward to inviting the public back to Fair Lane to experience this inspiring place that my great grandparents called home.”
The first 10 percent of all funds raised will be placed into an endowment to provide permanent operating support for Fair Lane into the future.

Darren Walker, Ford Foundation president, delivered the good news to a sold-out room of supporters at the 29th annual Henry Ford Estate Dinner Dance at the Dearborn Inn.
Fair Lane was built on the banks of the Rouge River in 1915 by architects Willam H. Van Tine and Joseph Nathaniel French.
