It’s no secret that General Motors set its sights on the Nurburgring Nordschleife when it was developing the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE.
Obviously, between its 650-horsepower supercharged V-8, its track-trained 10-speed automatic transmission, its aerodynamic add-ons, and its other helpful go-faster bits, the Camaro ZL1 1LE has almost certainly set a new muscle car lap record at the Green Hell.
All the while, the world has watched and wondered: Just how quickly is this Chevy gonna lap the ‘Ring?
Will it beat the old Corvette ZR1’s 7:19.63 lap time?
(Unrelated but irritating: It’s a vertical video, which makes us wonder if it wasn’t originally designed for Chevy’s Snapchat page.)
referring to Compared to the standard Camaro ZL1, the ZL1 1LE is 60 pounds lighter and has an adjustable ride height, as well as Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve dampers.
This was three seconds faster than the Mustang Shelby GT350R, and we fully expect the ZL1 1LE to beat that time by several seconds.
Aero upgrades include a massive carbon fiber rear wing, and it also boasts a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires developed exclusively for the ZL1 1LE.
Like the ZL1, the Camaro ZL1 1LE is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that produces 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, but it’s been fitted with a raft of upgrades to help it tear up the track.
referring to In theory, the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE should be able to eclipse the Nürburgring muscle car record set by the 2017 ZL1 and based on Chevrolet’s recent Facebook video – we should be learning more about this record run soon.
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 holds the record at the Nürburgring for the quickest Nordschleife lap time by an American muscle car with a time of 7:29.60.
The video ends with the Camaro ZL1 1LE logo that you see in the screenshot above, with a front-facing view of a car blasting along the Nürburgring.
The 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE is obviously based on the record-setting ZL1, but the 1LE package adds improved aerodynamics, a more track-friendly suspension setup and stickier tires on lightweight wheels – all of which should make it an even better track car.
As the split screen layout ends, we see the familiar flow-through Chevrolet Bowtie emblem of the 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE with the words “Its time has come” spread across the screen.
