I was headed down Market Street in San Francisco in the 2017 Jeep Compass Trailhawk when it happened. My lane was quickly coming to an end as I willed the Compass forward, feeling the rpms climb ever so slowly to overtake the bus. This new version takes the place not only of the old Compass but also the Patriot as well. Jeep crams a lot of information on each page, but every page is well thought out and easy to read. The available tech features in the Compass are just kind of meh, but that is offset by the excellent functionality of the Uconnect infotainment system.

Officially launched in Europe, the new Jeep Compass has been detailed. 2017 Jeep Compass is based on FCA’s ‘small wide architecture’ and receives independent suspension and state of the art frequency damping front and rear struts. It is presented in two petrol and two diesel engine options and in four trim levels of Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk. It is offered with two 4×4 systems – Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low allowing for five varying modes of Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud, plus the Rock mode with is exclusive to the Trailhawk. Interiors are noted with Uconnect infotainment system in a range of displays from 5″, 7″ or 8.4″.

Given how hot this segment is today, don’t be surprised if it ends up being the USA’s top-selling Jeep someday. It made a few styling tweaks over the years, upgraded the cabin and drivetrain and turned the Compass into … a better car.
